It is with great sadness that the family of Ronald Adrian Skogen of Sturgis, Sask. announce his passing on March 11,2024.
Ron was born on June 3rd 1936 in Preeceville Saskatchewan to Alice and Oscar Skogen. He was the oldest of 4 children, with siblings Larry, Raymond and Linda.
Ron attended school in Preeceville until he left in 1953 when he found jobs as a steelworker in Prince George, Jasper and Churchill. He returned home to Preeceville and started working at Burgs garage.
Ron married and had two children Donna and David. They moved to Rosetown where he worked at Regal Motors until he purchased the old creamery in Esterhazy and started his own Auto body repair shop in 1963.
Ron met Bernice Brodie while in Esterhazy, and together they made the decision to move to Sturgis in 1970. They purchased a home on Weikle Avenue and a garage in town where he opened Ron's Repair. Ron and Bernice also operated a restaurant and a gas station in town.
In his retirement years he was the pest control officer for as many as 6 Rural Municipalities. He enjoyed the visits with land owners and community as he travelled around for this position.
Ron had many interests; he was a founding member and the 1st president of the Sturgis Wildlife. Ron and Bernice enjoyed travelling, going on a 3 month trip to Alaska, a cruise and many trips to the United States. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and meeting new people along the way. Ron was always up for a game of cards, crib, dice and sharing a meal.
He is lovingly remembered by his siblings: Larry (Betty-Lou), Raymond (Vi) and Linda; his children: Donna (Jack) Marsh, David (Julie) Cooper, Jamie (Janet) Brodie and Kathy Brodie (Allan Boen); his grandchildren: Rebel, Ann (John), Rachelle (Mike), Cameron (Megan), Nichole (Andrew), Brianne, Ethan and Emma; his great grandchildren: Tory, Teah, Tyra, Henry, Gus, Cora, Simon, Kaiden, McKenna, Tye, Theo, Everleigh, Jackson, Cillian and Finn and his great great grandson Hartlee; as well as his nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Alice and Oscar Skogen and his beloved wife Bernice.
A Family Service was held for Ron. Interment will follow at a later date in the Sturgis Cemetery. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Sturgis Cemetery or the Yorkton SPCA.
