A recording of the Funeral Mass for Rosella will be available for viewing under "Services"
from the evening of Saturday, April 25, 2026 until Saturday, May 9, 2026.
Rosella Rath was born on June 25, 1936, to Bernard Athmer and Anna (nee Nordick) at the family farm, located 3 ½ miles east of Englefeld, Saskatchewan. She was one of nine children and attended Englefeld School.
Rosella married Mathias Rath on August 22, 1956. For a few months, they resided in Port Alberni, BC, where Matt worked at the pulp mill and delivered mail, while Rosella worked at a coffee shop. They relocated to Saskatchewan and established their family farm, situated four miles southeast of Burr.
Matt and Rosella moved into a new home that they built on Dust Crescent in Humboldt in 1992. Matt frequently visited the hockey arena to watch games, while Rosella took up bowling as her preferred pastime. During this time, they billeted numerous players for the Humboldt Broncos.
Following 45 years of marriage, Rosella was bereaved of her husband, Matt, who passed away at the age of 69 on February 11, 2001, due to a heart attack while goal judging a Bronco game.
Rosella continued to reside at their home on Dust Crescent until the fall of 2003, at which time she relocated to a condominium on 12th Street. She subsequently moved to Caleb Village in 2011, where she enjoyed playing Kaiser daily and was known as the "Kaiser Queen." She cherished her new home at Caleb Village, which kept her engaged in its various activities.
Rosella's MS, unfortunately, necessitated a move to Bethany Village in December 2020, where she resided until August 2021, after which she moved to St. Mary's Villa to be closer to her family. While these transitions were challenging for Rosella, she eventually found comfort in the care provided by the wonderful caregivers who surrounded her, making her feel welcome and at home.
Rosella was an accomplished cook, consistently preparing complete meals for her family upon their return from school. Her home was always welcoming, and meals were readily available for anyone who came to assist on the farm or pay a visit. Sundays were often dedicated to family gatherings, and the home was always filled with laughter.
Her garden was consistently bountiful, and she derived pleasure from planting and harvesting. She also assisted Matt during the busy harvest season by driving the grain truck. Rosella also enjoyed flowers, fishing, curling, bowling, and spending many hours watching her children participate in sports. She possessed a good sense of humor and appreciated a good laugh.
Rosella endured Multiple Sclerosis (MS) for the final 20 years of her life, which resulted in the loss of her ability to walk and the use of her right arm. Despite these challenges, she never complained about her struggles. She cherished numerous memories, primarily those related to her life with Matt and her children. She lived with gratitude for the life she was blessed with. She kept her faith and trust in God.
Her loving, caring, and compassionate personality will be profoundly missed and fondly remembered by her six children, 15 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.
