It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful wife, mom, and grandma, Roxanne Schindel on December 28, 2023. Roxanne passed away peacefully, with her family surrounding her, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Roxanne was born July 12, 1959 in Val Marie, Saskatchewan, on a farm that is now located within the Grasslands National Park. She was the sixth and final child of Paul and Florence Syrenne. Her sisters are Paulette, Rena, Mona and her twin Joanne, while her brother’s name was Fernand. Roxanne went to Val Marie School and then the University of Saskatchewan where she studied Arts and Science and then the College of Law. Afterwards, she worked for the Government of Canada at the Solicitor General's office.
In 1983, Roxanne met Dennis and they were married in 1984. They had four children, Raynelle (their beautiful still born daughter), followed by sons, Jordan and Landon and finally their daughter Kelli. They also cared for numerous foster children. They raised their family in Jansen where they had a wonderful life on the farm. Last year, Dennis and Roxanne celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary. Family was always first and foremost in Roxanne’s life. She never missed a sporting event or any event her children were a part of. She loved her biological children, her foster children and her eight grandchildren immensely.
Roxanne’s sisters, bible study group and walking group were all extremely important to her. She also loved the community of Jansen. She spent endless hours volunteering and bettering the community. Last winter, Roxanne was awarded the Queen Jubilee Award for her Lifetime of Volunteerism in Saskatchewan.
Roxanne had a million dollar smile, and shared it with absolutely everyone she met. She will forever be remembered for her empathetic heart, generosity with her time and selflessness to help those around her. She truly was a blessing to everyone who knew her. As we are mourning the loss that Roxanne is no longer with us here on earth, we are comforted knowing she had an immense faith in Jesus as her Lord and Savior.
“I truly believe in a God who really cares about me and has a plan for me. So if this cancer takes me, it’s because he has better plans for me, that are beyond our sight at this time… I'm not leaving anyone who cannot survive without me, and though there are people who will miss me, remember I will be watching down from above.”
We will truly miss Roxanne for the rest of our lives. She has touched countless lives in a positive way. We look forward to hugging her again someday and seeing that million dollar smile. Roxanne will be lovingly remembered by her husband, three children and eight grandchildren: Dennis of Jansen; Jordan (Megan) Schindel and family Raelyn, Rhett and Sophie of Clavet; Landon (Jennelle) Schindel and family Grayson, Brielle and Hayes of Jansen; Kelli (Tanner) Sobkowicz and family Leo and Tate of Lanigan; and sisters Paulette Legault, Rena Dumonceaux, Mona (Paul) Wildin, and Joanne (Greg) Ruetz; sister-in-law Sharon Columpsi; brother-in-law Larry (Aurilda) Schindel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Roxanne was predeceased by her parents Paul and Florence Syrenne, daughter Raynelle, brother Fernand, father-in-law Dan Schindel, mothers-in-law Helen and Josephine Schindel, and nephew Michael Columpsi.
The Funeral Service for Roxanne was held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 2:00p.m. at Jansen Community Centre. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorial donations in Roxanne’s memory may be made to the Saskatchewan Foster Families Association or Ovarian Cancer Canada.
