Ruth Laybourne Obituary

It is with great sadness in our hearts to announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Ruth on October 19, 2025 at the age of 98. Ruth had a kind heart and a gentle soul we will all miss.

Ruth was born to Karl and Bertha Lissel on April 16, 1927 at home in the Jansen District. Ruth attended Horton Country School, grades one to nine. After finishing school, she remained on the farm caring for her elderly mother who passed in 1951. Her brother Bill, who had taken over the family farm, lived with them as well.

Ruth married Raymond Laybourne on March 30, 1952. They moved to Lampard area and started farming, raising a family of four boys and one daughter. Together they built a new house on the farm in 1961, and lived there until 1996, when they moved into Humboldt for retirement.

Ruth was always known from far and wide for her cooking, feeding all that came along. Whether hired men, relatives, friends of the kids or Raymond, Ruth would prepare a meal for all. She was a home maker her entire life and in retirement years specialized in her homemade soup greatly enjoyed especially by her grandkids and their friends.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life and she treasured them all. Always asking about them and so enjoyed visits when they passed through town. Many fond memories and stories will be cherished by them all.

Ruth remained in her home in Humboldt until January 2025 at which time she ended up in the hospital for 6 weeks and then moved to St Mary’s Villa in February. She was very comfortable and content there until her peaceful passing on October 19.

Ruth is survived by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren:

Patrick (Shirley) Laybourne and their children Ryan Laybourne, daughter Jessica (Luke) Cunningham and their sons Charlie and Benny, Miles (Samantha Blackmore) Laybourne and their children Noah, Zayla and Leon;

Greg Laybourne;
