Sean Nienaber Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sean Stewart Nienaber, who passed away on March 27, 2026 at the age of 58, in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan.

Sean was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan in 1967. He spent part of his childhood growing up in Anaheim and at the age of eleven, his family moved to Lake Lenore, which would remain an important place throughout his life.

Sean’s family operated the Lake Lenore Lumber Mart and Meat Market, where he developed his strong work ethic and natural talents in carpentry, meat cutting, and hands-on craftsmanship.

Some of Sean’s fondest memories were made during summers spent at Little Bear Lake with his Grandpa Joe and family where he enjoyed fishing and creating lasting memories.

Sean graduated from Lake Lenore School in 1986 and went on to work at the Humboldt Lumber Mart, where he was employed until 1992. Over the years, he also enjoyed helping local farmers in the fields and working with cattle, sheep and goats - work he found rewarding and grounding.

In 1998, Sean moved to Alberta to work on the oil rigs, beginning a long and dedicated career with Bertram Drilling in Carbon, Alberta.

In 2000, Sean met Leighann and her daughters, ReAnna and Katelynn. They were married a year later, beginning their life together as a family. In 2003, they welcomed their first son Brayden, and in 2006, their family was completed with the birth of their second son Mitchell.

Sean spent many years with Bertram Drilling, working in a variety of roles in the field and later in the shop and office. He later joined Double M Farms, where his skill and ingenuity allowed him to build or fabricate just about anything that was needed.

Sean will be remembered for his hard work, loyalty, and dedication to his family, as well as the quiet pride he took in everything he did. His quick wit and laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by Leighann; their sons, Brayden and Mitchell; and his stepdaughters, ReAnna (Cesar) and Katelynn (Justin). He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Noah, Kyra, Sofia, and Addison. He is also survived by his mother Judy (Russ); his sisters, Jody and Jennifer (Darcy); as well as many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and many lifelong friends.

A celebration of Sean’s life will be held at the Carbon Community Centre, 718 Glengarry St. Carbon, AB on May 1, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.  Burial will take place in Lake Lenore, Saskatchewan, later this summer.
