The family announces the passing of Sophia Francis Tremblay on March 12, 2022, at St. Mary’s Villa, Humboldt, SK.
Sophia was born February 21, 1927, to John and Angela Kanik. She was raised on the family farm by Goodeve, Saskatchewan. She was the third oldest of 10 children. Sophia went to Normal School in Regina. She was a teacher for a couple years in Torquay, Radville and Moose Jaw. On October 12, 1948, Sophia married Raymond Tremblay and moved to Courval. Sophia and Raymond had five children, Robert, Gilbert, Ted, Bryan and Cathy while living in Courval. In 1965 they moved to Humboldt. Sophia had numerous jobs in Humboldt before becoming co-owner of Rona’s Fashion Centre in 1976 until closing. She was a long-time member of the St. Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary. Sophia was very passionate about, quilting, reading, travelling, and gardening. Sophia moved into St. Mary’s Villa in 2006 where she resided until her passing.
Sophia is survived by her 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild:
ROBERT (Elaine nee Knafelc) of Melfort and family Melissa (Jason) White and children Orren (Bobbie Yasieniuk) and Erika (Kole) Riemer and son Kiptyn; Ryan (Amy nee Perrot) and children Emma, Sophie, and Alex;
GILBERT (Kathy nee Zilkowsky) of Humboldt and family Gregg (Twyla Little) and son Brendan (Tanya Schmeichel); and Alynn (Brett) Meberg and children Kaleigh and Avaya;
TED (Rona nee Indzeoski) of Humboldt and daughter Nicole Tremblay and children Toni and Jack;
BRYAN (Janice nee Doepker) of Humboldt and family Nancy (Trevor) Baert and children Kade, Carter, and Nora; Adam (Stacey nee Stomp) and children Andie, Tessa, Beau, and Mila; Evan (Kristin nee Hauber) and daughter Luna;
CATHY (Randy) Litzenberger of Yorkton and family Mark (Riona McDonagh) and son Aaron McDonagh; Paul; and Andrea.
Sophia is also survived by one sister, Lorna, and one brother, Myron.
Sophia was predeceased by her husband, Raymond (2003), great-granddaughter, Dayna (2005), parents John and Angela Kanik and seven brothers and sisters.
The Funeral Service for Sophia was held on March 17, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home & Crematorium, officiated by Debbie Sarauer. Interment took place at St. Augustine Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations in Sophia's memory may be directed to St. Mary's Villa Foundation.
