It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Josephine Sklar (nee Roettger), 87 years of Watson, on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Sylvia was born on June 21, 1938, in Humboldt to Anton and Helen Roettger. She was raised in the town of Pilger with her five sisters and six brothers.
Sylvia married her first husband, Archie Seufert, in November of 1954. They moved to Alberta and this is where they started their butcher shop business. Sylvia was hard working and dedicated to their business. When Archie sadly passed away, she decided it was time to move back home to be closer with family.
Sylvia found love again when she met Emil Sklar. They were married in January 1980 and lived and worked on the farm near Prince Albert for many years, until deciding to retire in Prince Albert. With declining health, Sylvia and Emil moved into the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson within the past year.
Sylvia had a passion for working with her hands, needle working, crochet, and was a seamstress – she had patience for the small details in her work. Sylvia also enjoyed baking and puzzles.
Sylvia will be deeply missed by her husband Emil Sklar, daughter Karen Gray (Jim Bracken), and her eight siblings. She was predeceased by her husband Archie Seufert and three siblings.
There will be no funeral service at this time. Memorial donations in Sylvia’s memory may be made to the Quill Plains Healthcare Foundation.
