The family announces the peaceful passing of Walter Francis on Sunday, August 7, 2022, surrounded by his family.
Walter was born August 19, 1928, in Lintlaw, SK to Walter Francis Sr. and Lucy (nee Hart) of Haverfordwest, Wales. He grew up and obtained his education at the Lintlaw Rural School. Walter worked in lumber camps for several years in Northern Saskatchewan before taking over the family farm near Lintlaw.
He met Annie Daniluk of Okla, SK and they were married on October 28, 1955, at Lintlaw, SK. Together, Walter and Annie had and raised four children: Barry, Karen, Calvin, and Sherry.
Walter belonged to the Wheat Pool Board as well as St. Stephens Anglican Church vestry in Lintlaw. Walter was a sociable guy and loved hunting, a good game of crib, and playing cards with family and friends. He enjoyed trips to Wales, Scotland and the Maritimes. Walter had a love of reading and always knew a little about everything; he was a quiet observer and enjoyed taking in conversation, and the goings on around him.
In August of 2006 Walter and Annie retired from farming and moved to Humboldt where they presently resided.
Walter will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Annie of 67 years 3 children and 2 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren:
Karen (Lee), Calvin (Elaine), Sherry (Vince) daughter in-law Donna Francis and family Collin Francis (Mackenzie & Logan Francis) Melanie (Mike) Espeseth (Kaylee & McKenna Espeseth)
Sister Violet Lindgren, sister-in-law Irene Daniluk, numerous nieces and nephews.
Walter was predeceased by his parents Lucy and Walter Francis, parents in-law Julia and Dennis Daniluk, son Barry Francis (2012), granddaughter Megan Francis (1999), sister and brother-in law Phyllis (Stacey) Stein, brother-in law Allen Lindgren, brother-in law Harry Daniluk, sister-in law Val (Tony) Vewchar, and sister-in law Helen (John) Slusarchuk.
The family would like to thank the Quill Plains Centennial Lodge in Watson for the wonderful care that they provided for Dad during his stay. Also, to the staff at Humboldt District Hospital for the kindness and compassion that they showed in his final days.
A Private Family Graveside Service was held in Lintlaw, SK. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Humboldt, or to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan.
