Wayne Gies Obituary

Wayne A. Gies, 78 years old, of Middle Lake, Saskatchewan, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, December 3, 2025. He was born on January 28, 1947, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to Francis and Agnes (McCrystal) Gies.

Wayne completed his education at Congress and Assiniboia Schools. Shortly after graduating, he began a successful 35-year career with TD Bank.

Wayne met Grace Brown in Hodgeville, Saskatchewan and their love story led to marriage on August 15, 1970, in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Together, they were blessed with three sons: Richard, Cory, and Kelly.

Wayne’s career took him and his family to several communities across Saskatchewan and Manitoba, where they built many lasting friendships. Their final stop before retirement was Selkirk, Manitoba. After retiring, Wayne and Grace moved to Middle Lake to be closer to Richard and his family.

Wayne was truly a “Jack of all trades,” with knowledge and skill in many areas. He had a passion for woodworking and loved spending time tinkering in his garage.

Wayne and Grace shared a wonderful partnership, always working well together. One of their great accomplishments was a complete makeover of their home in Middle Lake—a project that challenged them but resulted in a beautiful transformation.

Wayne approached everything in life with care and precision. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, though he found it difficult to ask for help himself.

A social and outgoing man, Wayne loved being around people—especially when he was with his kids, grandchildren and of course, the love of his life, Grace. He was devoted to her, attentive to her needs, and cherished every moment they shared together.

Family roots were deeply important to Wayne. Returning to the homestead for the August long weekend was a cherished annual tradition, where he reunited with his siblings and extended family. Wayne loved these gatherings and help made sure they happened—he was truly the “glue” that held the family together, their unwavering “ROCK.”

Wayne and Grace shared a love for road trips, often visiting the spa in Moose Jaw and exploring other destinations across a few provinces. In fact, just the weekend before his passing, they enjoyed a beautiful getaway at the Moose Jaw spa and spent time visiting family.

British Columbia was another favorite destination, where Wayne and Grace really enjoyed visiting Kelly and his family.

Wayne had simple pleasures that brought him joy—country music, a cold beer and clam, Cheezies, and red licorice. These treats were always in abundance in their home, a reflection of his warm and welcoming nature.

Wayne will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Grace Gies of Middle Lake; two sons, four grandchildren, and one great-grandson: Richard (Nora) Gies of Middle Lake and their children Kethia (Michael) Harder of Prince Albert and Brock of Middle Lake; Kelly (Eva) Gies of Vancouver and their son Ethan; and Cory’s son Ryan Connolly and his son Greyson, both of Fort St. John, BC.

He is also survived by his siblings: Fay (Greg) Tymchuk of Vegreville, AB; Dolly Hargrave of Sexsmith, AB; Joyce (Glen) Eisnor of Edmonton, AB; Jerry Gies of Pincher Creek, AB; and Brian Gies of Saskatoon, SK; as well as sister-in-law Marlene Gies of Kipling, SK and brother-in-law Brian Brown of Hodgeville, SK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Agnes Gies; his son Cory Gies; three brothers—Ralph, Brent, and Francis; and one sister, Bonnie Lindsay.

A Funeral Service was held on Saturday, December 13, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. at Malinoski & Danyluik Funeral Home & Crematorium Humboldt, led by Funeral Celebrant Debbie Sarauer.  Memorial donations in Wayne’s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Interment will take place at a later date at Assiniboia Cemetery.
