William Stregger Obituary

William Daniel Stregger was born on January 31, 1962 to Christof and Joyce Stregger in Estevan, Saskatchewan to be the youngest of their 5 children. In 1972, the Stregger family moved from Estevan to Medicine Hat, Alberta where Bill spent his formative years. Bill loved to adventure and push limits from an early age, from blowing himself across rooms by sticking forks in outlets to crashing bikes with and without motors, Bill was never afraid to try something new. When Bill lost his dad at the age of 14, he decided to use his great energy, imagination, and intellect to glorify God. From 1980 to 1983, Bill went to Millar Memorial Bible Institute where he began his lifelong work in missions. In the summer of 1982, he spent 6 weeks doing door to door evangelism in Ireland. In 1982 at Millar he met the love of his life, Joy Ruten, whom he would later marry in 1985. In 1984, Bill spent a year in Liberia with SIM teaching in a Bible School. Bill loved his family dearly, he felt blessed to have 3 children, Jessica in 1988, Christofer in 1990 and Martin in 1992. In 1989 Bill and Joy were accepted by SIM. After a 1-year French study they arrived in Burkina Faso as a family in 1991 where Bill studied the Gourma language in Fada N'Gourma while working at many jobs. In 1994, the Stregger family moved to Piela, where Bill was mechanic, maintenance man, preacher, and teacher, and later, station head. In 1997, Bill got his bachelor’s from Millar Bible College while on home assignment. In 2002, Bill was asked to teach Old Testament at the DOULOS Bible School. In 2012, Bill received his Master of Theology from Master's International School of Divinity and was also ordained with the AGC later that year. From 2008-2018 Bill served as director of DOULOS in addition to teaching. Through teaching at the school Bill had the pleasure of building into the lives of many pastors in the Gourma church. Bill always counted it a huge privilege to have spent so much time working, laughing, sweating, crying, bleeding, building, breaking down and getting stuck alongside so many of his Burkinabe brothers and sisters. To his last breath Bill proclaimed the goodness and faithfulness of his Saviour, and everyone who saw him heard again that God is Good. Bill will be greatly missed by many friends and family around the world, but especially by his wife, Joy, his children Jessica, Christofer (Brittany) and Martin (Christy) and his grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Rosalie.
