William "Bill" Monz Obituary

William Richard Monz, 79 years, of Humboldt passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022.

Bill was born on November 8, 1942 in the Viscount district to Fred and Olga (nee Kalinski) Monz and was the middle of 13 children.  He grew up on the family farm in the Bruno/Viscount area and attended the local country school.  He worked on the family farm and for other local farmers, then at 19 ventured to Humboldt where he worked as a carpenter with his brother.  On January 29, 1964, Bill married Marjorie Haslbeck.  They lived in Humboldt, where they raised their three children.  Bill and his brother Jim started their own construction business which eventually evolved into Humboldt Lumber Mart, a company they operated for many years.  He constructed many buildings over the years from houses to churches and nursing homes.  When their children were young, Bill and Marj enjoyed camping together with family and friends.  Bill enjoyed being outdoors with time spent hunting and fishing alongside his sons, brothers, and friends.  He took up golfing in his forties which quickly became his favorite hobby during his retirement years in addition to visiting with friends for a game of cards, going for coffee and often biking several kilometers a day around town.

Bill was a humble man who enjoyed his career, never fully retiring, yet found time to spend with those he loved the most, his family.  He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Monz of Humboldt; their three children and six grandchildren:  Rene Monz of Regina and sons Brayden Monz of Lethbridge, AB and Rylan Monz of Okotoks, AB; Darin Monz of Kugluktuk, Nunavut, daughter-in law (Cathy Korte-Monz) of Humboldt and daughters Chloe Monz of Humboldt, Sophie Monz of Saskatoon and Olivia Monz of Humboldt; and Natalie Monz (Robert Cunningham) of Lanigan and son Nathan (Nica) Monz of Saskatoon; his siblings:  Betty Bauer (Ken Turner) of Quesnel, BC, Walter (Donna) Monz of Bruno, Joan Frank and Larry (Christine) Monz, all of Humboldt; brothers-in-law Lorrence Pfeil of Humboldt and Joe Marquis of Whitecourt, AB; Marjorie’s siblings:  Peter Haslbeck, Mona Schlosser (Harold Strueby), all of Humboldt, Donna (Ken) Stuart of Thompson, MB and Calvin (Ingrid) Haslbeck of Saskatoon; and by numerous nieces and nephews.  Bill was predeceased by his grandson Tanner Monz; parents Fred and Olga Monz; siblings:  Robert Monz, Rose Pfeil, Pearl (Jack) Hayes, Leonard Monz, Jim (Doreen) Monz, Viola Marquis, Jackie Monz and Donald Monz; parents-in-law Peter & Catherine Haslbeck; and Marjorie’s siblings:  Marlene Haslbeck, Ron (Doris) Haslbeck, Elaine Davenport, and (Doris Haslbeck).

A Private Service was held.
