The sudden and unexpected death of Wilma Jean King (nee Lowe), 86 years, of Central Parkland Lodge, Lanigan, occurred on Saturday, August 10, 2024.
Wilma was born on August 1, 1938, in Watson to Gordon and Alice (nee Pearce) Lowe. She grew up on the farm east of Englefeld, attending Greenside School. When she was in her teens, the family moved to Watson. As a young 18-year-old, Wilma worked in Watson as a telephone operator. She was a drum major in a pipe band which she played in with her brother Archie and her dad. At a dance in Watson, Wilma met Howard King. They were married in Watson on September 2, 1957, and were blessed with a family of four, two sons and two daughters. They lived at Quill Lake for the first years of their marriage and then in 1965, when Howard took a job with Alwinsal Potash Mine, the family moved to Lanigan, which has been their home ever since. Wilma loved being barefoot, working in her garden, this was her happy place. She also enjoyed oil painting, creating many beautiful pictures. Wilma was an active member of Knox United Church, serving with the UCW and singing in the choir. In her later years, she played the snare drum with the Happy Gang, performing at nursing homes and local events. She had a love for animals and while Howard would bring new pets home, it was Wilma who trained them. She had a keen eye and would always be able to spot the wild animals when on a drive around the area. Her family was number one for her and she relished the time spent with them.
Wilma will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her four children, 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren: GORDON King of Hafford and family David (Meghan) King and children Hudson and Mitchell of Saskatoon, and Amy (Bryant) Hayden and children Ellis, Sonny, Munroe and Riel of Saskatoon: BRUCE (Dianne) King of Pincher Creek, AB and family Tiana (Lex) Navarro and daughter Carmen of Calgary, AB and Tyler King and his son Ethan of Lethbridge, AB; KATHY (Randy) Makinson of Lanigan and family Drew (Kaila) King and children Owen, Kali, Levi, and Atlas of Saskatoon, Morgan Planchot of Regina, Kelly Makinson (Tim) and children River and Hunter of Red Deer, AB and Scotty (Nicole) Makinson and children Sophie and Oliver of Winnipeg, MB; and SUZANNE (Mark) Nivon of Fishing Lake and family Catlin (Kara) Nivon and children Griffin and Lydia of Moose Jaw, Allysa Nivon (Tim) and children Pierce, Danika, Orin, Axton and Chael of Grande Coulee, and Dane Nivon of Fishing Lake.
