Leon Roger Vols

October 21, 1946 ~ March 20, 2017 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Leon Roger Vols passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at Humboldt District Hospital on March 20, 2017 at 70 years old. For Leon it was a blessing as his pain and suffering were over. Leon was born in the R.M. of Viscount on October 21, 1946 he was the 5th son and last child of Clement and Alma (nee Bevern) Vols. Leon lived and farmed with his parents on a farm in the R.M. of Viscount. They raised cows, chickens, work horses and had many cats and dogs. In 1976 Leon and his family moved to the village of Viscount into a newly built house where they were able to enjoy the modern conveniences such as running water, showers and a flushable toilet. At this time Leon took over the bulk of farming as his parents had retired. They had given up farming animals and stuck to farming grain. Leon retired from his own farm but he helped local farmers and did seasonal work for the R.M. of Viscount cutting ditches. His health got the best of him and he retired from all work at the age of 65. He was confined to a wheelchair and walker at 66 until his passing. People most often knew Leon as negative and a chronic complainer but that was only one side of him. He was very kind hearted, always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved to tease people. Leon also loved animals, when he was young he befriended a calf. He cried buckets when his father told him he was going to take the calf to market. He loved it so much that his mother made his dad keep it. Leon enjoyed playing broomball, his teammates named him “Oscar” as he could be grouchy. He was an avid pool player and won many trophies. He also enjoyed playing kaiser and socializing with friends and family. Leon was predeceased by his parents   Clement and Alma Vols; his three brothers: Cyril Vols, Gustov Vols, and Albert Vols; his nephew Kavin and his pet Molly (poodle). Those left to mourn Leon are is his brother George Vols; numerous nieces and nephews and his pet Ginny (poodle). Leon will be sadly missed by his long time friend and caregiver Deborah McCrea and will always have a special place in her heart. We love you Leon.  The Graveside Funeral Service for Leon will be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Alphonse Roman Catholic Cemetery, Viscount.  Memorial donations in Leon’s memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or MS Society.
